Tony is one of the founding partners of Cosoff Cudmore Knox.
Tony was admitted to practice in 1987, having obtained an Honours degree in law, and a Bachelor of Economics with an Accounting major. Prior to the establishment of this firm, Tony was a partner in Fisher Jeffries.
Tony has for many years conducted a wide variety of often-complex matters across a wide range of industries and covering many areas of law. Early in his career he represented the successful defendants in extensive company takeover litigation in the mining industry in Residues Treatment & Trading Company v Southern Resources, a matter concerning the alleged allotment of shares for an improper purpose which occupied over 100 sitting days in the SA Supreme Court. He was also involved in a variety of building and construction matters, including representing an American corporation in long running litigation relating to the waterproofing of the Adelaide Casino Plaza.
Tony has also been heavily involved in banking, finance & insolvency litigation, including representing a variety of lenders and borrowers over many years in numerous contested actions for the recovery of secured property. He has represented various borrowers, particularly West Coast farmers and a substantial Coonawarra winery, in hard fought litigation against various lenders. He has acted for a variety of insolvency practitioners in the full range of insolvency matters including investigations of bankrupts, public examinations of directors, preference actions and insolvent trading actions.
Tony has also represented the interests of numerous professionals, particularly engineers and accountants, on instructions from professional indemnity insurers. In particular, Tony acted for the specialist gearing engineer in relation to the controversial failure of the retractable Adelaide Oval Lights, a matter in which the parties produced over 60 technical expert reports.
In addition to advising insurers, Tony has been responsible for the provision of extensive risk management advice to clients generally, including advising an American based software company in relation to the liability implications of the 'Y2K' bug and how to minimise them.
In addition to his work in South Australia, Tony has conducted significant litigation in the superior Courts in Victoria and New South Wales, including acting on behalf of an Australian based vehicle component manufacture against American corporations, including Ford Motor Company Inc and TRW Inc. Tony has also conducted significant litigation in the New South Wales Supreme Court for one of Australia's largest builders in relation to contractual and Trade Practices Act issues.
He was also responsible for our firms' representation of the owner of the land earmarked for the National Radioactive Waste Repository, a matter in which the State of South Australia was involved, and which concerned complex proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia.
Tony is a member of Law Society of South Australia, the Law Council of Australia, the Australian Insurance Law Association, and the Australian Professional Indemnity Group.
