James is our managing partner and one of the founding partners of Cosoff Cudmore Knox.
James was admitted to practice in 1978, having completed his articles of clerkship at Fisher Jeffries while also working on a part-time basis as a tutor and examiner in company law at the University of Adelaide Law School.
James was previously a partner at Fisher Jeffries. He served two terms as the managing partner of that firm, during which he oversaw a period of significant growth.
James has practised exclusively in commercial law and, in particular, in relation to complex commercial disputes conducted in superior courts.
James enjoys a strong reputation in resolving complex matters in circumstances of urgency. He has had the carriage of numerous applications for urgent interlocutory relief, including applications for Mareva injunctions and Anton Pillar orders.
James' practice has predominantly been plaintiff based, and focused on a broad cross section of commercial law. He has been involved in major contractual disputes, disputes relating to corporations, contested takeover disputes, and a range of disputes involving property matters. James has also been responsible for work performed by our firm on behalf of the Legal Practitioners Conduct Board.
James has acted for proprietors and licensees of radio stations and commercial television stations. He has also had the carriage of numerous disputes involving intellectual property rights, patent infringements, patent revocations, design infringements, trademark infringements, passing-off matters and disputes arising under the Trade Practices Act.
James has an outstanding reputation for his ability to manage the conduct of significant disputes, as well as enquiries and investigations, involving complex legal and factual issues, and often involving the need quickly to marshal and to manage a team of professionals.
James is a member of the Law Society of South of South Australia, a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand, and a member of The Executive Connection.
