Law Clerks

Due to COVID-19 the CCK Lawyers’ clerkship programme has been temporarily suspended.

This page will be updated when our clerkship programme recommences.

We offer clerkships throughout the year for law students in their final or penultimate years of study. We also offer clerkships during the Summer and Winter university breaks, and practical training placements to meet the requirements for admission to practice as a lawyer.

Clerkships typically run for four to eight weeks, and can be part time (at least two days per week) or full time as studies allow. Students who are undertaking pre-admission practical legal training courses may count their clerkship towards any practical experience requirement.

We seek motivated, hard working people who are interested in working with experienced lawyers on complex legal matters, and who want to be part of the ongoing growth of the firm. Many of our lawyers have begun their career as law clerks with CCK Lawyers.

Clerkships at CCK Lawyers include:

  • the opportunity to be involved in first class commercial legal work;

  • personal mentoring by one of our lawyers to develop practical professional skills;

  • a comprehensive induction process covering file and financial management, legal drafting style, and how to conduct yourself as a professional;

  • regular and constructive assessment of your work;

  • priority consideration for graduate positions as a lawyer – the first step on your career progression.

How to apply

Clerkship applications should include:

  • a covering letter which indicates whether you are in your penultimate or final year of studies, whether you have a preferred time of year for a clerkship, and whether you have any particular areas of interest;

  • your curriculum vitae;

  • an up-to-date copy of your academic transcript (certified copies not required);

  • a small photograph of yourself for identification purposes;

  • if you propose to count your clerkship towards any practical experience requirements, a brief outline of those requirements; and

  • whether you agree for us to hold your application on file to be considered for future positions as well.
