Karina Cosoff (formerly Karina Ellis) was admitted to practice in 1997. Karina was appointed a partner in 2004.

Karina heads the firm's Construction and Engineering practice. Karina's work typically involves the interpretation of voluminous and complex contract documentation, and often involves managing a team to deal with complex technical issues relating to construction projects.

She has recently managed a trial in the Supreme Court of South Australia on behalf of a multinational public company, occupying over 120 hearing days and involving sums exceeding $40 million, in connection with an infrastructure refurbishment project.

Karina previously acted for the same multinational public company in resolving a variety of complex construction disputes, including a successful arbitration in New South Wales concerning a $130 million infrastructure refurbishment project.

Amongst other matters, Karina is also currently managing complex litigation in Western Australia for clients involved in the resources sector.

In recent years Karina has acted for:

  • major civil construction companies in providing contractual advice, and resolving disputes, on numerous industrial and infrastructure projects;
  • a public company in relation to a dispute arising from the supply of industrial components to a government entity in Tasmania;
  • a major construction company in relation to a significant dispute over the development of a residential apartment building in the centre of Sydney;
  • a major multinational engineering company in preparing and organising service of what was then the largest payment claim under the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act (Qld) 2004. The payment claim was worth in excess of $20 million.

Karina is the immediate Past President of the South Australian Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). She is currently the sponsorship and awards chair of the SA Chapter of NAWIC, and a director of the National Board of NAWIC Limited. She is also a member of the Society of Construction Law of Australia and the Law Society of South Australia. She regularly attends Civil Contractors Federation functions.
